Supply + install runs $70-$120 per m² for hybrid, $55-$100 for laminate, $110-$230 for engineered timber and $45-$120 for carpet. But removal, levelling and underlay are where real quotes grow - so this calculator prices them in, line by line.
Pick your material and tier, then tell it what is underneath. The estimate builds up from supply, install labour and each add-on separately - exactly how an installer's quote is put together.

Supply + install per m², cross-checked across 2026 Australian installer guides. Most homeowners spend $70-$140 per m² installed across all materials; a typical 100-120 m² three-bed home runs $6,000-$15,000.
| Material | Installed per m² | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hybrid (SPC/WPC) | $70-$120 | Typical range; budget jobs from ~$60, premium wide-plank to ~$150 |
| Laminate | $55-$100 | Standard product + install; premium product with trims and prep to ~$150 |
| Engineered timber | $110-$230 | Premium, wide-board or glue-down jobs to ~$300 |
| Carpet | $45-$120 | ~$65/m² mid-market average; premium wool and wool blends to $200+. Sold by the broadloom metre (3.66 m wide) |
| Add-on | Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Underlay (floating floors) | $5-$12/m² | Laminate foams $3-$18/m² by tier; most hybrid has underlay attached - do not pay twice |
| Removal of old floor | $8-$60/m² | Carpet $8-$18, floating $10-$20, tiles/glued $30-$60 - the old floor matters more than the new one |
| Subfloor levelling | $25-$60/m² | Usually only part of the area needs it - the most common hidden cost in flooring |
| Stairs | $50-$150/step | Reconciled planning band - published figures vary widely |
Within any one material the spread is 2-3x: hybrid supply runs $30-$45/m² budget to $80-$110 premium; carpet runs from ~$20/m² polypropylene to $125-$150 wool blends.
Levelling adds $25-$60/m² where it is needed, and most existing slabs and board floors do not meet the ~3 mm tolerance out of the box. Removal of the old floor adds $8-$60/m² more.
Floating click-lock is the cheapest install ($25-$45/m²). Glue-down engineered runs $80-$140/m² and herringbone labour $80-$120/m² - patterns cost 30-50% more than a straight lay.
