Tiling cost calculator

What will your tiling job cost? It depends on the tile, mostly.

Standard labour runs $50-$80 per m² - but large-format tiles push it to $70-$115 and mosaics to $84-$200. Add tile supply, waterproofing and removal, and two quotes for the "same" room can differ by thousands. This calculator prices each part separately.

What moves a tiling quote most

1. Tile format

The biggest single lever after area: standard labour $50-$80/m² becomes $70-$115 for large-format and $84-$200 for mosaics. Small tiles mean more pieces, more cuts and far more grout line per m².

2. Tile material

Supply runs $20-$60/m² for ceramic against $80-$150+ for natural stone, and porcelain typically costs $30-$60/m² more than ceramic at like-for-like quality - it is also harder to cut, so its labour sits in the upper half of the band.

3. Wet-area work

Waterproofing adds $40-$75/m² and is not optional in bathrooms - it is required by the National Construction Code and AS 3740, and in NSW and QLD it must be done by a licensed waterproofer.

Ranges cross-checked: hipages tiler and bathroom guides, ServiceSeeking 2026 pricing data, Airtasker, TradieVerify, The Flooring Guys, The Quote Yard, WhatsTheDamage - October 2026. Full workings and worked examples are in the tiling cost guide.

Got a bathroom in the works?

Bathroom tiling bundles the expensive extras - waterproofing, screeding, removal. Run the numbers with the bathroom option and see each line separately.
