A mid-range kitchen renovation runs $25,000-$45,000 in Australia; budget renos $10,000-$25,000, premium $45,000-$80,000. This calculator prices by the metre of cabinetry and benchtop - not by layout name, because no publisher we checked prices layouts honestly - using published component ranges.
Cabinetry is the biggest lever, then the benchtop. The estimate updates as you go, with a 10-15% contingency shown separately underneath.
Built from published Australian component ranges - cabinetry, benchtops, splashbacks, appliances and trades. Send your details and we will confirm an exact quote. No obligation.
Layout itself carries no rate - kitchens are priced by the metre of cabinetry. An island adds about 1.5 m of run, which we include if you pick it.
Note: engineered stone with 1% or more crystalline silica has been banned for new benchtops in Australia since 1 July 2024. "Low-silica stone" is the compliant successor product.
Guide range only - your exact quote depends on selections and what is behind the old kitchen. Send your details below and we will confirm it properly.

$25,000-$45,000
The core mid-range band (Joyce Kitchens $20,000-$45,000; KitchenQuote $22,000-$45,000; Buildmat $30,000-$50,000). The HIA median kitchen spend is $30,000-$35,000 (HIA Kitchens & Bathrooms Report 2025). Published mid-range totals often exclude new flooring - ours includes it when you select it, which pushes the top of the range up honestly.
Read the kitchen guide$10,000-$25,000
Full budget reno with flat-pack cabinetry; cosmetic-only work (paint, doors, benchtop) runs $5,000-$15,000 (hipages).
$45,000-$80,000 / $80,000-$150,000+
Premium is usually defined by custom cabinetry, stone and layout change; luxury architectural work with structural change runs well past $80,000 (Joyce Kitchens; Homes to Love).
Stepping from flat-pack to semi-custom adds $6,000-$12,000; to fully custom, $15,000-$25,000+ (KitchenQuote step-ups, corroborated by Service.com.au component tables).
Engineered stone with 1%+ crystalline silica is banned for new benchtops (Safe Work Australia, from 1 July 2024). Low-silica stone runs $550-$1,100 per linear metre installed; laminate $250-$450.
Cabinetry, benchtops, plumbing and electrical carry largely fixed costs: a 6 m² kitchen at $18,000 is $3,000/m², while a 14 m² kitchen at $35,000 is $2,500/m² (KitchenQuote).
Sydney runs hotter than the national picture: like-for-like renovations with new joinery, decent appliances and a stone benchtop are quoted at $45,000-$90,000 there. The calculator's location setting adjusts for this - Melbourne about 5% above base, Sydney 15%.
The kitchen guide prices every component - cabinetry, benchtops, splashbacks, appliances, trades - with sources, plus the engineered stone ban and the licence thresholds that apply to a job this size.
